Before After Its a work in progress I know, but at least its better than what is there now. Oh and just so ya know blue and gold are the school colors...just so ya realize that's the reason why those colors permeate the entire site. Photoshop 6.0 has a nice rounded rectangle tool and a regular rectangle tool which i used to create the tabs themselves. Then I followed it up with a bevel and emboss utility for each layer. Then flattened the image and skimmed off as much of the extra colors as I could to make the images smaller prior to compressing them as a jpg. Its important for the library web pages to load up as fast as possible for even dial-up users. We have a lot of patrons here that still don't have broadband yet at home, eventhough the university itself is setup on a T3 connection. I just started using Photoshop a couple months ago so I'm still getting used to the controls. Most of what I know about web design and web graphics has been self taught from books I've read and web sights I've visited. So that being said I like to think I'm at least doing a decent job at this considering my limited background so far. We are forbidden to utilize frames due to the fact a lot of our patrons bookmark pages they want quick access to. Its a rather large site...the useful link section alone is massive. So I'm trying to do as much as I can to un-bury at least the most important pages and limit the need to scroll to help out our laptop users. But feel free to give me any advice or suggestions on the site. I am trying to make the site look and navigate better despite the constraints and limitations I'm under. Currently however the site is still just in the planning stages. But after I get the complete mock-up of the site running I'm hoping to get the committee to move its design phase to polishing it up toward making it ready to do some usability studies. I've been doing limited focus groups to test changes made to the navigation and overall look of the site. Once I get the final product looking about where I want it I'll be submitting it for final approval to the web site committee (which I'm a member of) for a vote to make it live. Grax Brigadier General Posts: 161	Posted on Thu Apr 1, 2004 11:32 am Interestingly enough the web pages do look different on my home PC than they do at work. Most specifically the blue color used in the tabs don't appear quite as dark as they do at work. Not copletely certain why there is such a difference. I might try another version with fewer colors removed in the graphics and see if that makes a difference.

If the colors are different and you are using the same type of browser then it is probably a video thing. Frames are bad so anytime you can avoid them you are doing the right thing.
