Flying Lab Software announced today that in honor of Talk Like A Pirate Day they are opening registration for gamers who want to participate in the upcoming beta test program for Pirates of the Burning Sea, a new massively multiplayer online computer game. Later this fall, approved beta test applicants will join Flying Lab online to exhaustively playtest the game and get it ready for launch this winter.

Set in the Caribbean in 1720, Pirates of the Burning Sea is a game of naval combat and conquest. Pirates, navy officers, and adventurers explore a world of danger, glory, and intrigue, fighting it out in real-time tactical naval battles. Every player is the captain of a ship right from the start, facing the challenges of a region in conflict. Britain, France, Spain, and the pirates go to war over the ports of their rivals in a strategic server-wide competition while individual players pursue their own destinies.

Online gaming sites Gamespot and IGN recently previewed the game, with Gamespot noting "it's the naval combat in Pirates of the Burning Sea that makes it vastly different from that of most online role-playing games" while IGN hailed it as "one of the bolder moves I've seen in the MMO world."

To sign up for the beta test program, gamers can go to:

Also not to be confused with the "Angry Pirate" which is cumming in a girl's eye and kicking her in the shin. SO she hops around like an angry pirate.

The last and most interesting detail of note is that Pirates of the Burning Sea will release over Steam. While Flying Lab hopes to have the game release on store shelves in boxes eventually, they'll be using Valve's distribution system as their primary source of sales.

Awesome. I've been looking forward to this game for a long time.

So do we want to star out as Brits, Spaniards or pirates? I assume most people will want to be pirates and if any of you want to be Frenchies, we'll happily kill you.

I played this game while I was at a Gaming Convention up in Seattle and its really well done. The only major issue I had was the way the avatar moves. It doesnt run very well and it gets stuck on everything.
