Yes its that time once again. VenomX is upgrading his hardware so he can play all the new games. I'd like to keep it under 3k (well under 3k if possible.) What should I go with?

Dave has a good point. Which parts of your computer were you looking to upgrade?

Okay, this is the BEAST I came up with for under 3K:
http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/wishlist/PublicWishDetail.asp?WishListNumber=3112692
Except for the Hard Drives, it's pretty much what I have, except double the RAM and double the GPUs. If you want to bring the price down, I would cut a video card, a hard drive, or the RAM (or a combination). Right now, 2 of those nVidia cards is probably over kill. 4 Gigs of RAM might be overkill too (but 2 certainly is not). If you do get both Hard Drives, I would RAID them Striped, so you can get even more speed. Obviously, the case is just plain (albeit excellent) and there are plenty of other options. Let me know if you have any questions about this stuff or whatever else you decide to go with (even if you totally shun my recommendation). Also, if you prefer Intel, you may want to scrap the whole thing.

I would get the cheaper one, but I would to see if there is a comparable processor with 1MB L2 cache (or 2x1MB for dual core) and get that one.

What is the difference between the 939 chipset and the AM2 chipset?

Also can someone explain to me the difference between an SLI setup with a 7900 GT vs a single 7900 GTX?

939 and AM2 are the socket sizes. No performance difference, necessarily, but the processor and motherboard have to be made for the same socket. SLI gives you *almost* double the power of a single video card. In the case of the 2x 7900 GTs vs. 7900 GTX, I might just get the one more powerful card, and then you can always by another down the road when the price drops. Again, when you are talking about cards as new as these, 2 is probably overkill right now.

Actually, take off the second video card. Replace that with an Xbox360 and ChromeHounds.

I found out that the AM2 boards support the new DDR2 memory

Very nice....I think that will be a great system. Then you can upgrade it in a year or so.
