I don't want to install the old Ventrilo. Can we upgrade to the new one?

Not unless you can find a way to make it free.

It is free, but it only supports 8 people. There haven't been more than 5 people connected at the same time in over 3 years.

Well, it's been awhile, but it hasn't been 3 years. I am not going to impose a limit like that just because you don't want to reinstall it.

There's reasons behind why I don't want to reinstall it. Running both versions of ventrilo resets all my settings that i'm tired of setting back (servers, sound settings, retyping long passwords, individual user volume settings). Plus I don't want both versions installed with Vista and the newer version is just better. Hypothetical situation, you get more than 8 people to connect. Are you really going to have them all dual install old Ventrilo and the new Ventrilo. "Hey, welcome to our guild, you can download the old Ventrilo here." "Wait, you want me to downgrade my Ventrilo just so we can have some sort of voice communication? How about I just reinstall Windows 95 while i'm at it?" And i'm sure it's close to 3 years. In 3 months it will be PlanetSide's 4 year Anniversary.

[ This message was edited by: Slayer on 2007-01-28 12:22 ]

All good reasons, I'm sure...for you. Why should I make everyone else change for you? The new version is better? Define better, because I don't call a few fringe features that noone is going to use "better." Why should I make everyone else change for you? We may never have 8 people on again, but I know you're not going to pony up the dough for a provider if we get to that point. I personally see no reason to do so when we have the hardware to run it ourselves. If you can convince Razzle and Pod to switch, I will (reluctantly) upgrade the server. If we get to 8 people and no one wants to chip in, I am letting you explain to people why we are downgrading.

What exactly is upgrading going to do . Does it offer anything better? I know for a cpl days we have had like 5 people on that wasnt everyone either. so If we get what 2 more people anytime we would be over the limit i dont see the benefit, especially now that some of us are on alot again.

I don't see any reason for us upgrade to a newer version of Ventrilo when this version works fine. I find it kinda rude that you expect us to change over to a newer version just to make it easier for you to be connected to you're WoW guild and FJB at the same time.

Who said anything about expecting. I was asking a favor and providing reasons behind why I asked. This isn't a sudden thing brought on by a WoW guild. It's been a hassle since a few years ago when I wanted to connect on my Mac from work. Plus I figured when asking that it would be a quick.... "I guess we could try it out for a bit" based on the rational that WE need it only for a few people, but I also need it for a WoW guild, pickup groups, a PP server, CS servers, etc etc. Also on the fact that Vista is coming out and in a year or two it is going to be required for new games (there will be a Vista version, but we're still running the 2000/XP version). But now that it's become such a huge hassle I really don't care anymore and would rather we used the old ventrilo.

Actually, Dave you bring up an excellent point. We SHOULD go back to BattleCom.
