DO NOT download any Windows Updates for your machine. They secretly upgrade you to SP2 and that seriously hoses things. On top of that, once you are SP2 you cannot go back. I just reinstalled BF1942 3 times and it still will not work.   I am scared to try and play anything else.

I'm not sure the SP2 thing was correct as I had it confused with my .NET SP2, however, my BF1942 is still not working and I am at a loss. I would still recommend not downloading any updates until something changes.

Yep, that's what I meant by not being able to go back. On the positive side, however, the problem seems to be limited to BF1942 and I think I have fixed that at least temporarily. *fingers crossed*
